Framingham energy efficiency and renewable energy firm Ameresco has been chosen by one of the Northwest’s largest public school districts for a $2.1 million efficiency and infrastructure project.

The Portland Public Schools system in Oregon is slated for upgrades to the interior, exterior, parking lot lighting, and system upgrades at six school buildings.

Improvements to six schools of the 78-school, 49,000-student district are expected to save more than $70,000 annually.

Ameresco has been working with the Portland school system for more than a decade, including energy and water saving measures.

The school system is expected to land nearly $1.2 million in state funding for the project.

The project is expected to be completed this fall.
