American Airlines adds another Philly flight from Worcester

American Airlines is now planning to offer two flights from Worcester Regional Airport to Philadelphia beginning in October after previously announcing just one daily flight.

In an email to WBJ, the airline said it is increasing the frequency and changing the schedule. Now, flights will leave Worcester at 6:18 a.m. and 4:19 p.m., arriving at Philadelphia at 7:09 a.m. and 5:10 p.m., respectively. Coming home, flights depart Philadelphia at 2:55 p.m. and 9:29 p.m., arriving in Worcester at 3:50 p.m. and 10:24 p.m., respectively.

The new schedule gives the market even more connecting opportunities, as well as the best schedule for customers flying from Worcester, American Airlines said.

The airlines’ transatlantic operation from Philadelphia is serviced by the new schedule, the airline said.

With new routes, prices will fluctuate, and the airline will continue to evaluate the route’s operations.

Tickets for the new flight went on sale June 2, MassPort said in a statement.

Worcester County Sheriff and Chairman of MassPort Board of Directors Lew Evangelidis said the state's investments in the airport have helped strengthen the area's economy.

"The addition of this second flight between Worcester and Philadelphia is an excellent sign of the continued growth our region is experiencing, and we are thrilled to see the number of travel options increasing in Central Massachusetts," he said.

American Airlines, MassPort and the airport first announced the Philadelphia flights on April 16, when the airline announced just one morning flight to and from Worcester.

Currently, round-trip flights can be booked for $132 in economy class, and $177 for the main cabin.
