Ameresco inks $7M energy deal with Atlanta

Framingham renewable energy firm Ameresco has signed a $7-million contract with Atlanta to improve the energy efficiency of 19 city-owned buildings.
The contract covers more than 1.25 million-square-feet of space in the city and will implement 13 different energy conservation measures expected to pay for the contract over a 14-year term.
Energy use is are expected to be reduced by 5.6-million kilowatt hours annually, Ameresco said in a press release Wednesday. The upgrades and improvements will result in annual cost savings of nearly $700,000.
Building improvements will include interior and exterior lighting upgrades to LEDs, new chillers, HVAC upgrades, new energy-efficient transformers, water conservation measures and new premium efficiency motor installations.
Nearly 3,500 tons of carbon will be eliminated each year thanks to the project, according to Ameresco.
