R.I. architectural firm opening Worcester office

LLB Architects, a Rhode Island architectural firm that designs commercial, residential and other developments, will open a Worcester office next month, it announced Wednesday.

The office will be located in the Stevens's Building at 40 Southbridge St. downtown.

The firm — originally named Lerner Ladds Bartels after its partners — was founded in 1936 in Providence and is now based in neighboring Pawtucket.

LLB was the designer of the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center, which was built by Worcester Railers owner Cliff Rucker and opened last year. It is also working with the Worcester Public Library on its renovation plans.

The firm said its decision to add a Worcester office "was inspired by the level of development activity within the city and surrounding areas."

LLB, which has nine registered architects, has designed libraries in Bolton and Maynard, and buildings at Brown University, Bryant University and the University of Rhode Island, among other work.
