Worcester-based VNA Care has named a Marine Corps veteran as its interim chief operating officer.

Michael Willette was announced as the company’s interim COO Thursday.

Willette replaces Stephanie Jackman-Havey, who previously held the dual roles of CFO and COO. She will continue as CFO, the company said.

According to VNA Care, Willette began his career in the Marines as a training officer for the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, which ensured unit readiness in all aspects of combat, including humanitarian and NATO joint exercises in Africa, Middle East and Europe.

He later served in several roles with UMass Medical School’s Center for Health Care Financing. There, he worked on a team that developed Medicaid initiatives to help spread access to health care.

Willette also helped develop finance programs that helped the state save more than $100 million on health care annually.

As the executive director of administration and finance, Willette developed the Patient Helper Program, which identifies high-cost users of Medicaid and transitions them to employer-sponsored insurance for better access to specialized care.

Later, Willette founded consulting firm Sovikus Consulting Group.
