The president and CEO of the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center will retire next July, the center announced Monday.

Antonia “Toni” McGuire has been with Kennedy since 2008. A search firm has been hired to oversee the process of finding her replacement.

McGuire's tenure has included a sharp rise of 42 percent in the number of patients the community health center sees, now at 27,000 a year. Kennedy now has three medical sites, three dental sites and two optometry sites, as well as six school-based health centers.

The health center has also changed its name from Great Brook Valley under McGuire's leadership.

“Despite the unpredictability and challenges of the health care environment, Toni’s leadership and tenacity helped Kennedy CHC grow and become better financially,” Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham, the chair of the Kennedy board of directors, said in a statement. “Her strategic approach resulted in Kennedy CHC becoming a star both statewide and nationally. We have been truly privileged to have had Toni serve as our president and CEO for these past 11 years.”

The community health center said its board will work with staff and others to recruit a new president and CEO.
