Becker College has created its fifth school, the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, to centralize the Worcester college's graduate programs.

The new school, announced Tuesday, will include existing master's degrees in mental health counseling and interactive media, along with new programs including an associate degree in human services and bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and homeland security.

The school will be headed on an interim basis by Ursula Furi-Perry, the dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. A search is underway for a permanent dean.

Becker President Nancy Crimmin said the creation of the new school allows the college "to keep pace with the rapidly changing professional marketplace and helps us respond to the demands of our ever-growing student body."

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies replaces the Division of Accelerated and Professional Studies. It is the second academic unit added at Becker this summer, following the launch of the School of Humanities and Social Studies. Becker also opened the Colleen C. Barrett Center for Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship earlier this year.
