Five entities based in or connected to Central Massachusetts have received a share of nearly $2.9 million in state workforce training funds.

The funds, which were announced by the state on Aug. 24, were given by the Baker-Polito administration as part of its Small Business Direct Access Program, which helps qualified training organizations with worker training initiatives with hundreds of businesses. The grants are awarded through the Commonwealth Corp., a quasi-public state agency, in a competitive process.

The funding will allow training to take place through 2020.

  • Employers Association of the Northeast, which has an office in Auburn, was awarded $100,000 to provide training in leadership, management and supervisory skills.
  • Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Worcester was awarded $150,000 to provide training in process improvement and quality assurance skills.
  • Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner was awarded $123,750 to provide training in process improvement and quality assurance skills.
  • Quaboag Valley Community Development Corp., whose territory includes Brookfield, Oxford, Spencer and other Central Massachusetts towns, was awarded $75,000 to provide training in non-technical professional skills.
