Continuing a similar trend of supply and demand, single-family homes in Worcester County continue to rise in price as the number of homes sold declines.

In September, the median price of single-family homes in the Central Massachusetts county rose to $287,000, a 10.4-percent increase from September 2017, according to Boston real estate data firm The Warren Group.

For the year, home prices are up 6.2 percent over this time last year, The Warren Group said in its monthly home sales report.

Statewide, the median price of a single-family home has increased for 30 consecutive months on a year-over-year basis while a lack of inventory is keeping the number of homes sold low. There were 4,942 homes sold in the state last month, compared to 5,377 sold in September 2017 -- an 8.1-percent decrease.

For the year, homes sold in the state were down 1.5 percent.

In Worcester County, home sales declined, but not nearly as sharp as the entire state. The county lost just one home in September compared to a year ago and just 34 for the year, decreases of just 0.1 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.

The Warren Group’s report comes two days after a county-wide report from online real estate brokerage Redfin found the Worcester metro area quickly rising in value.

According to Redfin, the area -- which the U.S. Census Bureau defines as Worcester County and Windham County, Conn. -- registered an 11.1-percent increase in the median home value last month compared to a year ago.
