Early-morning train from Boston to Framingham being eliminated

An early-morning outbound train from Boston to Framingham on the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line will no longer run beginning Monday.

The change, which eliminates Train 581, was one of several announced this week by the MBTA for the system's new fall and winter schedule.

Train 581 leaves Boston's South Station at 4:57 a.m. and gets to Framingham, its final stop, at 5:47 a.m.

The train had very light ridership, the T said of that early-morning train to Framingham and two others like it on the Providence line also being eliminated.

Elimination of those routes is meant to improve conflicts with freight trains and improve reliability for inbound train traffic, the T said.

Most other schedule changes on the commuter rail system will be new departure changes of one or two minutes, with some off-peak trains seeing adjusted departure times of between five and 10 minutes.

Trip time lengths will not change, the T said.

Inbound Framingham trains during the morning rush hour will not be affected.
