Discover Marble increasing workforce 29% after Millbury expansion

Photo/Grant Welker Discover Marble & Granite President Victor DeOliveira, who owns the company with his wife, Cristina, is embarking on a major expansion of the company's Millbury headquarters.

Discover Marble & Granite is expecting to break ground next week on a 22,000-square-foot building on Route 20 in Millbury in an expansion of its headquarters.

The expansion, at 1 Latti Farm Road next to the Herb Chambers Maserati Alfa Romeo of Millbury dealership, will allow Discover to add 30 to 40 new employees, said President Victor DeOliveira, who owns the company with his wife, Cristina.

"We're constantly, obviously, trying to grow the business," DeOliveira said Tuesday.

Discover already has 140 employees in Millbury, with nearly 200 in total when including other offices in Wallingford, Conn., and Ft. Myers, Fla. A Wareham office is scheduled to open on Nov. 15.

DeOliveira, a former pilot, started Discover in Sutton in 2001 and moved into the Millbury location nearly a decade ago. It has been expanded since, and now includes two buildings and 45,000 square feet. The company's offices and showroom will move to the new Route 20 building while manufacturing operations will remain on Latti Farm Road.

The new building is slated to open next November.

Discover's sales and workforce have doubled in the past eight years, said DeOliveira, who expects further growth of 30 percent in the next three years. The company provides kitchen counter tops across New England and New York to contractors and home stores, he said.
