Framingham renewable and efficient energy firm Ameresco has completed a $3.6-million project for Ashland, including three solar facilities.

Ashland and the company partnered to develop the projects under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Ameresco operating and maintaining the systems for the term of the contract.

More than 5,500 panels are placed at the Ashland Middle School roof, Ashland High School parking lot and the Howe Street Landfill.

The systems are expected to generate more than 2.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, resulting in the reduction of 1,632 tons of carbon dioxide.

That’s the equivalent of taking 350 cars off the road and eliminating the annual energy use of 176 homes.

The town will save more than $250,000 annually, Ameresco Executive Vice President David Anderson said in a press release.
