Leicester, Northampton marijuana retailers report $440K in first-day sales

The first day of recreational cannabis sales in Massachusetts brought in $440,011 in total sales to the two businesses opening last week, including Cultivate in Leicester.
According to the Cannabis Control Commission, Cultivate saw 1,051 customers and took in $162,622.03 in first-day sales.
New England Treatment Access in Northampton came out ahead in both customer totals and sales, with 2,274 and $277,389.27, respectively.
The largest sale of the day on Tuesday was at NETA, where 11 products were sold to one customer for a total of $735.02.
At Cultivate, the largest sale was for five products for a total of $589.48.
All together, 10,784 products were sold between the two stores.
At a state sales tax rate of 6.75 percent and another 10.25-percent state excise tax, the first day of legal cannabis sales brought in $74,801 to the state’s coffers. Another local 3-percent tax brought in $13,200 combined to Northampton and Cultivate.
