Hudson machine shop Borg Design has helped design one of the most iconic Christmas ornaments this year.

The mechanical components of the star sitting atop the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City were designed by the shop, the company said.

The overall star design was made by architect Daniel Libeskind and commissioned by crystal and jewelry company Swarovski.

Rhode Island-based manufacturer Orion Red was asked to build the star, and based on a working relationship between the companies, Borg Design manufactured the mechanical components in the Hudson shop.

According to Borg Design, the project took 500 hours and three months to create the aluminum modules held together by screws.

The star was unveiled earlier this month. It was made with 70 spikes and is encrusted with over 3 million Swarovski crystals.

The tree will be lit during a ceremony on Wednesday.
