Wachusett Mountain opens new restaurant, bar

Photo/Courtesy Joe O'Brien, a former Wachusett Mountain general manager, officially marks the opening Sunday of his namesake restaurant, O'Brien's Deck Bar & Grill at Wachusett Mountain, with his wife, Ellen, and grandson Travis.

Wachusett Mountain Ski Area has opened a new restaurant and bar named in honor of a longtime general manager.

O’Brien’s Deck Bar & Grill is named after Joe O'Brien, the mountain's general manager from 1974 to 1992. O'Brien, who lives in Princeton, helped owner Ralph Crowley Sr. run the mountain when it was first awarded a lease to operate the ski area from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation.

O'Brien's is located outside the ski area's base lodge, serving grilled cheese sandwiches and draft beers. It joins other eateries at the base of the mountain, including Coppertop Lounge, Balance Rock Coffee Co., the T-Bar, Black Diamond Restaurant and a food court.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Sunday.
