Worcester eyeing pot stores in Main South, Canal District, Grafton Hill, Grove St.

Worcester, which in June called for requests for interest for cannabis retailers, has selected five companies with which to negotiate a host community agreement for pot stores and four for cultivation and manufacturing facilities.

The agreement is the first step in a cannabis retailer’s local approvals and a required piece in order to get state approval from Cannabis Control Commission.

Worcester is expecting at least 225 new jobs from the new businesses, the city said in a Tuesday press release.

The retailers include Community Growers Partnership, LLC at 40 Jackson St., Evergreen Strategies, LLC at 143 SW Cutoff, TDMA, LLC at 74 Grafton St., Mayflower Medicinals at 645 Park Ave. and Trichome Health Corp. at 62 West Boylston St.

Per state law, the city is required to allow 15 retail cannabis stores. In total the city has received 29 retail applications and 39 total cannabis business applications.

Already, four medical marijuana operators in the city have been granted at least a local host community agreement to sell recreational marijuana, bringing the total future adult-use cannabis stores in the city to nine.

Those other four are Good Chemistry at 9 Harrison St., Prime Wellness at 65 Pullman St., Mission MA, Inc. at 640 Lincoln St. and Medicinal Alternatives at 1191 Millbury St.

So far, only Good Chemistry is open to the public for medical marijuana sales. Good Chemistry is expecting to open for adult-use sales in March.

The only other company to submit an application to the Cannabis Control Commission for a retail license in Worcester is Mission MA, Inc.

In addition to retail applicants, the city will negotiate with four other companies for cultivation and manufacturing facilities in the city.

Those business include The Curated Leaf, Inc. at 10 Pullman St., Magic Dragon LLC at 45-61 Fremont St., SuperCritical Mass Laboratories, Inc. at 251 Brooks St. and RC Cultivation LLC at 30 Pullman St.

Temescal Wellness, which operaties medical dispensaries in Hudson, Framingham and Pittsfield, already has a Worcester cultivation site up and running at 141 SW Cutoff.

Each of the new applicants must still get approvals from the city’s Planning Board and License Commission in addition to state approval.

The city’s six-month-long process included a litany of documents detailing the management and operations of each company and a community outreach meeting for each planned facility.

For the remaining six of the 15 total retail licenses, Worcester is considering applications submitted both before and after the RFI deadline in August.

As of Nov. 30, one of those applicants that inquired after that deadline was Cultivate Holdings, which operates one of the two first cannabis retail stores to open in Massachusetts in Leicester.
