Hologic Q1 revenue to increase 5 percent

Hologic is expected to shatter its first-quarter revenue estimates by at least $16 million as the Marlborough medical imaging device maker expects to report $831 million in revenue.

That mark would be a 5-percent increase over the prior year and well above the $815 million figure at the high end of the company’s guidance range.

The company did not offer preliminary profit figures.

That growth was largely attributed to the company’s breast health segment, which is expected to bring in almost 13 percent more revenue than last year’s first quarter at $325 million.

Also increasing substantially was Hologic’s diagnostics business, which should bring in $297 million in first quarter revenue, a 4.21 percent bump from last year.

The gains come despite the company coming under scrutiny from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that led Hologic to pull its TempSure Vitalia women's wellness device from the market after the FDA warned about inaccurate marketing of a similar device.

Last month, Hologic said it worked with the agency over the last few months to return TempSure Vitalia to the market.
