Milford Regional Medical Center tallied a $2.5-million operating loss for the 2018 fiscal year, the hospital reported Tuesday.

The loss, a reversal from a narrow profit the previous year, was due to a 3-percent rise in costs to just over $280 million not matched by higher revenues. Revenue grew 2 percent to nearly $276 million.

The 145-bed hospital reported some non-financial data in its annual report.

Emergency room visits rose by 2 percent to 59,396 — around 163 per day. Inpatient discharges and observation stays rose by less than 2 percent to 13,847. Day surgery visits, on the other hand, fell nearly 11 percent to 5,256.
