Three Central Mass. Charlotte Russe stores to close

Three Central Massachusetts locations of the women's clothing stores chain Charlotte Russe will close, with the company filing for bankruptcy Wednesday and planning to go out of business.

Charlotte Russe has locations at the Natick Mall, Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough and Auburn Mall. It has a dozen Massachusetts locations in all.

The impending closures add to a growing list of retailers shuttering brick-and-mortar locations, including many with Central Massachusetts locations.

All pop-up Amazon retail locations will also be closing, a list that includes spaces in the Natick Mall, along with the Northshore Mall and South Shore Plaza.

Just last month, footwear discounter Payless ShoeSource filed for bankruptcy, leaving eight Central Massachusetts locations dark: in Webster Square in Worcester, at the Auburn Mall, the Solomon Pond Mall, the Mall at Whitney Field and Twin City Plaza in Leominster, Natick Mall, at 400 Cochituate Road in Framingham, and Milford Plaza.

The children's clothing stores Gymboree announced in January it would go out of business, leaving four Central Massachusetts locations empty. Last year, Walmart closed its Sam's Club location in Worcester, and Toys "R" Us closed stores in Auburn, Bellingham, Leominster, Framingham, Millbury and Northborough.

A two-story American Girl store at the Natick Mall is due to close March 20. The mall faces the potential closure of its Tesla showroom after the electric car maker said last week it planned to close many of its retail storefronts.
