MetroWest Medical Center adding outpatient maternity care unit

MetroWest Medical Center will open an outpatient maternity care unit next month offering labor assessment, lactation support and other services pre- and post-partum.

The center will be named the Joel S. Rankin Outpatient Maternal Care Unit after a MetroWest Medical Center physician for more than four decades. It will include four treatment rooms and expand across 16,000 square feet in total.

The hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new unit Wednesday and will open to patients April 15.

MetroWest Medical Center offers similar services on its labor and delivery unit, but the new unit will allow the hospital to increase capacity and offer services for expecting mothers who aren't in labor in a different setting than where deliveries take place.
