A former official with a union representing DCU Center workers has pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling more than $37,000 from the union.

Ilvar Carlson, 58, of Auburn, admitted to one count of embezzling from a labor union, according to the U.S. States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Between March 2007 and September 2016, Carlson, the former business agent and treasurer for Local B-935 of the IATSE, embezzled the funds belonging to the union by writing checks from the union’s bank account, cashing them and using that cash for his own personal expenses.

Carlson could be sentenced to up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $10,000.
