Mass. home buyers 'out in force' in March

Home sale agreements struck in March jumped 15 percent over March 2018 and the median price of pending home sales surged 6 percent, to $390,000, according to statewide data released Wednesday morning.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors said there were 5,488 home sale agreements reached last month. Pending condo sales were up more than 9 percent in March, and the median price of condos put under sales agreements last month fell 5 percent to $375,000.

Pending condo sales have been flat for nine of the last 12 months while pending home sales have been up in each of the last 12 months.

While the buyers were "out in force" last month, according to association president Anne Meczywor, the association reported its market and price confidence indexes were both down by nearly 11 percent last month, compared to a year ago, though both indexes remain in positive territory.

In a survey of its members, nearly 56 percent said demand for homes designed for "aging in place" was increasing or significantly increasing.
