Former Milford bottle manufacturing plant to become warehouse

Photo | Zachary Comeau The Ardagh Group's bottling plant, closed since March 2018, will be split into two tenant spaces.

The recent buyers of a vacant bottling plant in Milford have proposed a major renovation of the 322,000-square-foot facility.

Milford National LLC, which purchased the property at 1 National St. in December for $4.1 million, is seeking to demolish the portion of the property housing furnaces, add 12 additional loading docks and reconfigure the parking area.

Three investment firms, New Mill Capital Holdings of New York, Odyssey Real Estate Capital of Las Vegas and Joseph Finn Co. of Boston, said in December they planned to sell the remaining equipment left over from Luxembourg-based Ardagh Group and bring the 32-acre property up to modern warehousing standards.

Ardagh closed the 250-employee plant in 2018 after what it said was a slowdown in the need for glass bottles for the mass beer market.

In a property flyer, the space is split into two main tenant spaces: one for 163,500 square feet and another of 158,500 square feet. Also included is a 3,375-square-foot office space.

In documents, Milford town officials said the group’s application for an amended site plan requires more information, and approval isn’t likely at a Tuesday meeting of the Planning Board.
