Heartland Water Technologies in Hudson announced on Tuesday two key hires as it looks to expand its international operations in China and Latin America.

The wastewater treatment firm is opening an office in Shanghai, China and has tapped market and business development expert Quincy Wang to lead the office. Wang, who will report directly to CEO Earl Jones, brings 20 years of market and business development experience from China-based energy and environmental firm MNL Partners and Lanzatech China.

Wang will assume the role of vice president of Heartland China.

In another personnel move, the company hired water industry veteran Ricardo Bernal to serve as senior vice president and general manager in the company’s Latin American markets.

He joins the company from Texas-based Jacobs Engineering Group, where he was responsible for worldwide industrial water business development.

In a statement, Jones said the company’s initial focus will be on landfill leachate and marketing its cogeneration solution, CoVAP, to allow landfills to use their biogas to make electricity with engines or turbines and taking the exhaust heat into the Heartland Concentrator as the thermal energy source for evaporating leachate.
