Sales begin for 700-unit Westborough project

Del Webb Chauncy Lake, a planned 700-unit development at the former Westborough State Hospital site, will feature the same look as other projects from builder Pulte Homes.
Sales have begun for a redevelopment of the former Westborough State Hospital into a community with 700 housing units.
The first units in the development, called Del Webb Chauncy Lake for the body of water it's situated on, are expected to open in December.
Del Webb, a national developer of 55-plus homes that's part of Atlanta-based Pulte Group, is advertising units for between $299,995 for a 1,030-square-foot one-bedroom to $406,995 for a 1,469-square-foot two-bedroom unit.
Del Webb has built a 1,000-resident community in the Pinehills master-planned development in Plymouth, and Pulte has area residential developments including Brooksmont and Holliston Woods in Holliston, Legacy Farms in Hopkinton and Highcrest at Meadow Walk in Sudbury.
A sales office has opened on the site at 175 Lyman St. in March, and the development has been very positively received, the developer said.
The former Westborough State Hospital closed in 2010, and Pulte bought the property from the town in December for $7 million. Plans have called for 700 units among 14 buildings, with amenities including a lakeside clubhouse, tennis courts, a community swimming pool and walking trails.
A 2011 reuse plan for the site called for a mix of residential and commercial uses in repurposed state hospital buildings. But no commercial components are called for as part of the Del Webb development, and residences will be built in new structures.
