The amendments take effect January 2009, and are intended to make legislative fixes to several U.S. Supreme Court cases that have been perceived to limit protections under the ADA of 1990. The ADA Amendments Act redefines the term “disability” to favor broad coverage of individuals who face discrimination on the basis of a disability.
