2008 40 Under Forty: Maura Peeler

09/01/08

Maura Peeler

Age: 37

Title: General Manager

Company: SpringHill Suites by Marriott & Devens Common Conference Center

Company Location: Devens

Residence: Marlborough

Career highlights:

I currently work for True North Hotel Group managing an all suite Marriott hotel and a 20,000-square-foot full service conference center in Devens.

Community involvement:

Throughout my four years working in Devens, I have been involved in several community organizations. EcoStar is a Devens based organization I belong to that brings together local business leaders concerned with environmental practices and promoting sustainable development in Devens. I also belong to the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Worcester / Central MA CVB. I organize company events supporting our local Loaves & Fishes food pantry on Devens. Outside of Devens, I participate in an annual March of Dimes walk in Worcester and numerous charity affiliated runs each year.

Biggest professional success:

My two biggest successes professionally were the successful opening of our unique Devens Common Conference Center in May of 2005 and winning “Opening General Manager of the Year” for Marriott in 2005.

Dream job:

My ultimate dream job is to become a vice president for a hotel company overseeing 100+ properties.

Business person she admires most:

The business person I most admire is Mr. Bill Marriott Jr., chairman and CEO of Marriott International. Mr. Marriott embodies his mantra “take care of your associates and they will take care of your guests.” He still keeps a full schedule getting out each week to visit properties, thanks associates for working hard, and meets clients and guests at every opportunity.

If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do?

If I weren’t managing hotels, I would be a personal trainer.

Favorite movie:

“The Quiet Man.”

If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you?

“Angela’s Ashes.”
