09/01/08

Kuldeep Rana

Age: 35

Title: Vice President

Company: Resourcesoft Inc.

Company location: Marlborough

Residence: Marlborough

Career highlights:

I started my career in IT as an individual contributor focused on product development.

Going with the flow during the dot-com boom, I joined a startup company and I was involved in development of e-commerce components and implementing custom solutions for customers. While the dot-com bubble was about to burst, I started working on a plan to start a company focused on IT project services. I also started working for Resourcesoft Inc. on a part-time basis, setting up the core infrastructure.

As time progressed, I made multiple trips to India to assess the potential of setting up an office for Resourcesoft there. I was able to help the company be more cost effective and also provide cost effective solutions to its clients. A few years ago, I started full-time at Resourcesoft and am responsible for the project services operations.

Community involvement:

I have been involved in India Society of Worcester, including contributing to the creation of the India Center in Shrewsbury. I am also a lifetime sponsor of the ISW scholarship program that recognizes students from the Indian community.

Biggest professional success:

I have enjoyed doing what I do at Resourcesoft, especially being a part of its startup culture. I also enjoy the challenges working for a startup brings and the flexibility to get things done quickly and correctly.

Dream job:

I have it now.

Businessperson he admires most:

I admire any person who has the courage and vision to build a company from ground up.

If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do?

Maybe a scientist... I almost took such a position after completing my bachelor’s, but instead decided to pursue master’s.

Favorite movie:

“Apollo 13.”

If you were stuck on a desert island what book would you want to have with you?

“Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff.”
