Worcester Firm To Make Residential Wind Power

11/05/08

Worcester-based wind turbine maker Mass Megawatts Wind Power Inc. says it is expanding into the market for smaller, residential wind power plants.

The company said it would begin building "demonstration units" with a rated output of 5 kilowatts immediately. The small turbines would be suitable for homes, farms and small businesses, the company said.

Buyers who use federal and state tax credits as a down payment on a Mass Megawatts mini power plant, could finance the balance through the company for a 10-year term. "At a reasonable wind location, the savings from electric costs should counter-balance these payments, making it potentially immediately profitable," the company said.

Mass Megawatts builds wind power plants the company considers an alternative to more familiar turbine-type designs.
