Marlborough Recycler Gets Top OSHA Designation

12/03/08

Marlborough-based We Care Environmental has been awarded the highest honor given to small businesses by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The recycling and composting facility has been approved as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) participant. The program recognizes companies that can serve as models of safety and health management for other companies.

The award was announced by the state Division of Occupational Safety.

After completing an extensive OSHA consultation and meeting several program requirements, the state can recommend a workplace for certification as a SHARP site. Once being named a SHARP site, a workplace is exempt from OSHA inspections for 2 years, and upon meeting further conditions, may be exempt for up to 3 years.

Only one other Central Massachusetts company, printer LaVigne Inc. of Worcester, is a certified SHARP company.

We Care Environmental is a division of New York-based We Care Organics. The company has several operations in Massachusetts, New York, Maine and Pennsylvania.
