Assumption: Who Needs The SATs?

Students cramming for college entrance exams have received a reprieve from Worcester-based Assumption College.

The four-year liberal arts school will not require students applying for enrollment in Fall 2010 to take the SAT or ACT standardized tests.

The Assumption Board of Trustees approved the new policy after "extended discussions with the college's key governing bodies, including administrators, academic deans and faculty leaders," according to a press release from the school.

In its review of standardized tests, Assumption enlisted the help of Eduventures, a research and consulting firm, to analyze four years of admissions data and academic records. The review found that high school GPA is a better predictor of academic success at Assumption than SAT or ACT scores.
