Execs: Small Is Beautiful

06/11/09

Few senior executives and managers want to work for huge corporations these days.

That's the finding of a survey by Madbury, N.H.-based NFI Research. Only 14 percent of those surveyed want to work at an organization with 10,000 or more employees.

Forty percent would rather work in a medium-size company, and 31 percent chose a small one. Senior executives were particularly likely to see small businesses as good places to be, with 45 percent selecting that option.

Asked what matters when it comes to staying with an organization, three quarters of those surveyed said compensation. Confidence in leadership and autonomy or challenge were the next most important factors.
