Boston-Power Founder Honored

06/17/09

Christina Lampe-Onnerud, founder and CEO of Westborough-based Boston-Power Inc. has been named Ernst & Young's entrepreneur of the year for clean technology in the New England region.

Lampe-Onnerud was presented with the award Tuesday at Ernst & Young's annual entrepreneur of the year gala. Ernst said the award recognizes businesses "that contribute significantly to the strength of our region's economy."

Lampe-Onnerud holds 15 patents and has six more pending. Boston-Power's portable, long-life rechargeable batteries were the first from an American firm to be provided to a global notebook computer vendor, HP. HP will market Boston-Power's notebook batteries as the Enviro Series.

Earlier this month, Boston-Power said it plans to build a battery manufacturing plant in Auburn.

Receiving the regional award from Ernst & Young qualifies Lampe-Onnerud for the national entrepreneur of the year award, which is announced in November.
