State Lands EPA Funds

06/22/09

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will distribute more than $185 million in federal stimulus funds to the state to improve drinking water quality and waste water infrastructure.

Many of the projects that will receive funding are overdue, the EPA said. The funds will be administered by the state’s clean water and drinking water revolving funds program.

The clean water program is set to receive $133 million to provide low interest loans for water quality protection projects for wastewater treatment, pollution control and watershed estuary management. The drinking water revolving fund will receive $52 million to provide low interest loans for drinking water systems and to finance infrastructure improvements.

The EPA said the funding would allow for the protection of the environment as well as the creation of new jobs.
