National Dentex Profits From Staff Reduction

For the third straight quarter, National Dentex Corp. of Natick saw its profits rise despite lower sales in Q3.

The dental supply company said the 33.8 percent increase in net income, from $791,000 in the third quarter of 2008 to $1.1 million for the same quarter this year, was due to cost containment initiatives. The company said it reduced its staffing levels and operating expenditures starting in the fourth quarter of 2008 and continuing into 2009.

National Dentex's sales fell 7.8 percent, from $42 million to $39 million for the third quarter, which the company said was a result of a decline in discretionary consumer spending.
