MassBio Members Get Access To Energy Consultant

11/20/09

The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, a trade association for biotechnology companies in the state, has signed a three-year consortium contract with Boston-based energy management company Source One.

Source One works with companies to evaluate their energy usage, search for competitive pricing on energy procurement and to create energy efficiencies.

The agreement will allow smaller member companies within MassBio to take advantage of energy management services that larger companies may have traditionally utilized.

The Mass Biotechnology Council has more than 600 member companies across the state and about 80 percent are small or medium sized. Through the agreement with Source One, the companies can save money on the services from Source One and could save an additional 5 percent to 15 percent on their energy costs.

Kevin Burchill, senior business development director for Source One, said the company may look to aggregate some of the smaller biotechnology companies with similar energy needs together in an effort to purchase discounted wholesale electricity. He said the company is in discussions with a handful of companies in central Massachusetts to use their services.
