Clinton Housing Project Relaunched

A Needham developer is hoping to revive a stalled housing project in Clinton after purchasing the property earlier this summer.

Development of the 217-acre "Woodlands on Berlin Road" began in the early 2000s but ceased sometime between 2007 and 2008 for financial reasons. About 168 of the planned 493 condominium and housing units were built before construction stopped.

In June, Woodlands View LLC., which has a resident agent listed as Gary Crossen, purchased part of the property for $1.3 million from Wachusett Woodlands LLC., which has a resident agent listed as Leonard Anctil of Clinton, according to chairman of the Clinton board of assessors David Baird.

Crossen, who is a Needham lawyer with offices in Lexington, said he assembled a group of partners to revive the project. There are some roadways, foundations and utility infrastructure pieces in place for the rest of the development.

Crossen said his first priority will be to finish the half-complete roadways, then install street lighting, and make some other aesthetic landscaping improvements. He hopes to begin construction on the remaining condominium units next year.

The complex is located just north of Route 62 off of Berlin Road in Clinton near Interstate 495.
