ADP: Employment Numbers Show ‘Pause In The Recovery’

09/01/10

Private sector employment decreased by 10,000 between July and August, according to the ADP National Employment Report.

ADP, a New Jersey-based payroll firm, said it also revised its June-to-July statistics down from the previously reported gain of 42,000 to a gain of 37,000.

The August decline "confirms a pause in the recovery already evident in other economic data," ADP said.

The month's job losses followed six months of increases. Over those six months, the average monthly gain was 37,000.

ADP's figures do not include the effects of federal hiring for the 2010 Census or the subsequent loss of temporary Census jobs.
