Helder Machado

Then: Director of information technology for Applix, Inc.

Now: CEO of Machado Consulting, Inc., Worcester

Two years after being recognized by WBJ, Machado left Applix, Inc. to start his own IT management firm, Machado Consulting. Much like its founder, the organization donates and volunteers, including at St. Mary’s Parish in Grafton, South Worcester Neighborhood Improvement Corp., Dismas House, Operation Homefront, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Massachusetts, Homes for our Troops, Habitat for Humanity and St. John’s Food for the Poor. Machado does this all while maintaining the rank of U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. He served in Iraq with the highly decorated Infantry Division and has been an active member of the Army for 32 years. His list of military achievements includes more than a dozen badges and medals. In 2017, the U.S. Small Business Administration named Machado Consulting the 2017 Veteran-Owned Business of the Year for Massachusetts. He helped nonprofit technology incubator Tech SandBox, Inc. develop a veteran tech entrepreneurs program. – Profile by Zachary Comeau
