AdCare Hospital has named Laura Ames as its new executive director, marking the Worcester-based detox facility’s second permanent executive direct and fourth leader overall since May 2023.
“I’ve seen firsthand the devastation the opioid and drug overdose epidemic has done to my community as a longtime resident of Massachusetts,” Ames said in a Wednesday press release from AdCare. “But I’ve also seen just how life-changing quality treatment can be, and I am incredibly grateful to join AdCare Hospital, where I can work with this dedicated team to restore hope for individuals and families whose lives have been touched by addiction.”
A registered nurse, Ames comes to AdCare having most recently served as the director of nursing at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She also serves as a surveyor at CARF International, an Arizona-based nonprofit accreditor, according to the press release.
With nearly three decades of healthcare leadership experience, Ames has previously served in CEO capacities at a number of healthcare institutions including Charles River Recovery in Weston and the Recovery Centers of America at Danvers and Westminster.
In her new role, Ames will oversee Adcare’s inpatient detox facility and outpatient services while working to better patient outcomes and enhance access to treatment.
“Coming to AdCare Hospital, I was struck immediately by the facility’s role as a trusted pillar of healthcare in our community for more than 50 years," Ames said in the release. "I am also aware that as the field of addiction treatment progresses, we must adapt with it. It is a privilege to guide this remarkable institution into the future, all the while preserving our tradition of providing exceptional, life-saving care."
Ames succeeds Andrea Dayotas who took on the hospital’s permanent CEO role in January 2024 after serving in an interim capacity since November 2023, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Dayotas replaced Ellen-Jo Boschert, the COO of Adcare’s operator American Addiction Centers, who briefly served as interim CEO after the unexpected departure of CEO Brian Stoesz in November 2023. Stoesz had only filled the role for six months since May 2023 before he decided to step away in what he referred to as a difficult decision.
Ames has earned advanced degrees in both nursing and administration and criminal justice from Anna Maria College in Paxton.
