Clean energy company Ameresco, of Framingham, has reached commercial operation at a solar energy site in Tiverton, R.I., as well as mechanical completion at a separate solar energy site in Cumberland, R.I., the company announced on Monday.

The projects are expected to provide significant cost savings for the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.

The solar site in Tiverton is located on a former corn field and includes more than 12,000 modules capable of generating 4.95 megawatts, according to Ameresco. Through the project, the Rhode Island Airport Corp. expects to save $380,000 over the course of the first year of the solar project’s operation.

In Cumberland, Ameresco has installed more than 14,000 modules with an energy generation capacity of 5.71 megawatts. It is expected to save $410,000 in energy costs over its first year. That site is expected to reach commercial operation next month.

“By developing and implementing over 10MW of electricity capacity and providing over $790,000 in annual energy savings, these projects provide a renewable energy source that directly advances the state’s commitment to clean energy expansion within their renewable energy portfolio." said David  Anderson, executive vice president and director at Ameresco, in a statement.
