Anna Maria College in Paxton will receive $1 million in federal funding for its nursing programs and to upgrade its clinical simulation lab.
The funding was part of the $20 million for Central Massachusetts organizations secured in December by Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) and Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-Lowell) as part of the federal $1.7-trillion omnibus spending bill.
The simulation space at Anna Maria gives students in the nursing, paramedic, and EMT programs patient care and clinical situation experiences, according to a Wednesday announcement from the college. The upgrades will primarily expand the spaces’ skill lab offerings in fundamentals, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and an ambulance box.
The funding aims to support the training of healthcare providers amid a shortage of wholistically capable professionals, according to a Tuesday release from McGovern’s press office. Anna Maria offers two nursing programs options for nursing students, including an in person and online option.
The funding will allow for the purchase of new equipment including high-fidelity simulators, exam tools, and vital sign and monitoring devices, according to the release from Anna Maria.
