Aspen to insulate Brazilian gas line

Northborough-based Aspen Aerogels has been awarded a contract to insulate the first pipe-in-pipe undersea natural gas pipeline in Brazil.

The 21-kilometer pipe will be insulated with Aspen's Spaceloft aerogel insulation. The pipeline is being built by Technip for Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras. It will connect the Canapu field, which is 1,700 meters deep, to the Cidade de Vitoria floating production facility.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The pipeline will be the first of its kind in Brazil, and will use a production pipe surrounded by a carrier pipe with the Aspen insulation in between.
