Photo | Grant Welker The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District has prioritized sprucing up vacant storefronts with artwork.

The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District is looking for artists to help brighten empty storefronts this summer, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The theme for the art will be “Downtown Reemerging,” according to the announcement.

Artists and makers are asked to submit proposals for window displays in otherwise empty storefronts. Artists in all career stages are invited to apply, although preference will be given to those who live or work in Worcester.

Those who are selected will be awarded between $1,000 and $2,000, depending on their submission.

The deadline for submissions is May 17. A virtual information session is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the call and answer questions. Details are available onlline.
