Springfield-based Big Y is opening a new location at 290 Turnpike Road in Westborough on Thursday and is looking for local farmers, vendors, and artisans whose products could possibly be featured in the store.
Big Y is seeking to offer 4,000 local products sourced from partnerships with more than 500 local businesses. Its local selection includes soda, artisan bread, chocolate, soap, fruits and vegetables, meat, and honey.
“Our commitment to local goes beyond just sourcing. It’s about celebrating the unique flavors and talents across the region,” Mike Cormier, senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in a June 27 press release. “These partnerships help us deliver exceptional quality while investing in the spirit that drives our communities forward.”
Big Y has a total of 84 locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. The new Westborough supermarket will be its seventh in Central Massachusetts, with other stores in Worcester, Franklin, Holden, Milford, Southbridge, and Spencer.
The plaza at 290 Turnpike Road is owned by Needham-based RK Centers and also houses businesses such as Burlington, Ashley Store, The UPS Store, and multiple local restaurants, according to Google Maps listings.
Big Y will celebrate the new store with grand opening celebrations beginning on Aug. 28, according to its website.
