Fulton County, Georgia will be the home of a new manufacturing and supply chain facility for Marlborough medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific.

According to an announcement made on Tuesday by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, the facility is projected to cost $62.5 million and will bring 340 new jobs over the next seven years to Fulton County, which contains the city of Atlanta. The new facility will be based in Johns Creek, a suburb located outside the city.

"Boston Scientific will find well-educated, well-trained, and hardworking Georgians who are eager to support the company’s life-changing work to fill these new positions,” said Kemp in a press release. “I look forward to seeing the impact of this expansion here in Georgia and far beyond as they keep the Peach State on the cutting edge of medical science."

Boston Scientific made its first forays into Georgia in 2016, when it acquired the Fulton County-based medical device company EndoChoice.

Boston Scientific currently employs around 300 people in Georgia, part of its global workforce of more than 40,000. The agreement on the new Johns Creek facility was done in partnership with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the City of Johns Creek, the Fulton County Development Authority, Metro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia Power, and Georgia Quick Start.

"As we expand our presence in Georgia, we remain grateful to all of our local employees whose work is already making a difference for healthcare providers and patients around the world," said Brad Sorenson, executive vice president of global operations at Boston Scientific, as part of the Tuesday announcement. "Our new site in Johns Creek will enable continued growth as we fulfill our mission to transform lives."

Like Massachusetts, Georgia maintains a strong life sciences sector, with the Peach State exported $3.2 billion in immunological products and $1.9 billion in medical devices and pharmaceuticals in 2021.
