Canal District restaurateur buys Harding Tire location for $1.25M

The owner of two prominent restaurants in Worcester’s Canal District neighborhood on Friday completed the purchase of the former Harding Tire Co. location for $1.25 million.

Ed Russo, the owner of the eateries Lock 50 and Russo Italian Restaurant, has purchased 16-20 Harrison St., also known as 180 Harding St., in Worcester, according to the Worcester District Registry of Deeds. Russo made the purchase through the corporation registered to him: Harrison Harding LLC.

Harding Tire Co., a family-owned business, closed in early July after almost a century in operation at that location.

The purchase increases Russo’s considerable holding in the Canal District. In January, Russo purchased three Canal District parcels at 74 Water St., 156 Harding St., and 25 Pond St.

Russo is the president of LABEX of MA, a Worcester-based steel caging firm for biotech companies. He didn’t return requests for comment on Friday.
