Worcester Business Development Corp. has added Butler GMC to its Small Business Administration 504 Loan portfolio, teaming up with Oxford-based bankHometown to provide a combined $2.18 million in financing to support the acquisition of an auto dealership in Charlton.

Previously known as McGee GMC, the dealership located at 104 Sturbridge Road had been operated by Robert McGee and James McKay since 2017. With McGee and McKay heading into retirement, a new ownership group under the name Butler GMC has acquired both the business and its real estate for a price of $3.3 million, according to a July 30 press release from the WBDC.

bankHometown is providing financing of $1.2 million, while the WBDC is contributing $984,000, according to data from the SBA.

“We are thrilled to support Butler GMC through the SBA 504 loan program,” Christina Escobar, director of SBA & lending at the WBDC, said in the press release. “This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to helping local businesses grow and thrive.”

Butler GMC is composed of Raymond Butler, owner of Midstate Mitsubishi in Auburn, Brian Lindsey, who has worked at the Charlton dealership since 2014, and Robert Montgomery, who has over two decades of experience in auto finance.

Butler GMC acquired the property for $2.4 million on June 3, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records. The property contains a 12,180-square-foot dealership and received a 2025 tax assessment value of $1.25 million, according to Town of Charlton property records.

“Partnering with the WBDC on the SBA 504 loan for Butler GMC, Inc. was a great example of how public and private institutions can work together to support local businesses,” Rob Morton, President & CEO at bankHometown, said. “In addition to their SBA 504 program, the WBDC’s expertise and deep understanding of local economic development are instrumental in helping to support business growth and job creation.”

The dealership has 20 staff members and plans to add five more, according to the press release.

Butler GMC joins Worcester-based C.C. Lowell Art Supply Co., Auburn-based dealership Lundgren Honda, and The Goddard School in Auburn as organizations receiving SBA 504 loans through the WBDC.

bankHometown is the 14th largest bank in Central Massachusetts, with $898.4 million in local deposits and $1.6 billion in total assets, according to information compiled by the WBJ Research Department. The bank has 11 locations in Central Massachusetts and 16 total across Massachusetts and Connecticut.
