Clark University has been granted $2 million in gifts from four Worcester foundations to amplify and drive learning and research within the university’s Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design.

Funding for the center’s infrastructure and academic programs is endowed by the George I. Alden Trust, the Ruth H. and Warren A. Ellsworth Foundation, the Stoddard Charitable Trust, and the Fletcher Foundation, according to a Tuesday press release from the Worcester university.

“Over the years, Clark has been the beneficiary of quite generous and longstanding support from our Worcester foundation partners,” Clark President David Fithian said in the release. “They have been vital in helping us provide our students and faculty with tools and opportunities for intensive education and exploration in fields that are pathways to emergent knowledge, robust careers, and positive impact in the world.

Sitting at about 70,000 square feet, the media center opened in the summer as a hub for multidisciplinary and collaborative teaching and research with the goal to inspire entrepreneurial thinking and development of innovative technology, according to the university’s website. It is home to Clark’s Department of Computer Science, several visual and performing arts programs, and the Becker School of Design & Technology, including its undergraduate game design program ranked #3 in the world by The Princeton Review.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design at Clark University was 700,000 square feet. The center is 70,000 square feet.
