The design-build construction of Primetals’ Technologies’ new 183,000-square-foot, $30-million manufacturing and office facility in Sutton has been completed, Maynard contractor JM Coull announced on Tuesday.

Construction on the UK-based company's Sutton facility began in April 2019. The structure will consolidate Primetals’ engineering and manufacturing facilities, which were located in separate buildings in Worcester.

The new facility is located along and visible from Route 146 and is located on a 16-acre site. The building’s shell was made from insulated precast concrete panels, and the majority of it centers around a 143,000-square-foot high-pay open manufacturing factory, according to JM Coull.

The facility includes a 40,000-square-foot, two-story office building.

“Originally envisioned as a renovation of Primetals Technologies’ existing Worcester facility, it was determined during the preconstruction process that the company would be better served from an efficiency and operating cost standpoint by relocating to a new facility,” said JMC President Andy Coull, in a statement.

The space is intended to foster collaboration between engineering and manufacturing departments.
